Joel Tibabwetiza Muhanguzi is an Embedded Systems Engineer at Sunbird AI, where he leads the partnership with TalkToSEMA to deploy AI-powered, audio-based feedback systems that capture citizen voices at public institutions in English and various local languages, powered by Sunbird’s Language Translation Technology (SALT). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Master’s in Computer Science from Makerere University, where he also lectures part-time in Embedded Systems. Joel has developed acoustic classification models to detect sources of urban noise pollution and identify bird species, supporting environmental monitoring and conservation initiatives.
He is an active member of the Data Science Africa and Deep Learning Indaba communities and is passionate about building inclusive AI systems that advance public good through low-power, locally deployed technologies.
